Job Description

An MDM Consultant is responsible for managing and maintaining master data, which is crucial to the operations of any business. In today’s diverse IT environments, master data often becomes disorganized, and, SAP has introduced SAP-MDM to address this issue. As an MDM Consultant, you will leverage the SAP-MDM tool to streamline and enhance master data management for organizations.

Key Responsibilities

• Understanding Business Challenges: Comprehend the specific business problems related to master data.
• Master Data Analysis: Identify the various types of master data used within the organization, such as material master, customer data, and so on.
• Solution for Designing and Implementation: After gaining a deep understanding, propose, and implement an SAP MDM solution tailored to the customer’s needs.
• Data Modeling: Design and model the master data for business partners within the organizational landscape.
• Repository Design: Develop and structure the MDM repository.
• Business Validation Creation: Establish business rules and validations within SAP MDM.
• Master Data Governance: If required, design workflows for Master Data Governance.
   

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in and facilitate requirements-gathering sessions, document discussions, decisions, and actions.
• Define data requirements including validations, cleansing rules, and exception handling, particularly for MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operation) materials and Chart of Accounts Master Data.
• Define business processes and workflow requirements.
• Review and validate requirements with stakeholders, obtaining necessary approvals.
• Develop a requirements traceability matrix to ensure all needs are met.
• Create functional specifications and high-level design deliverables.
   

Extended Roles of SAP MDM

• Collaborate with clients to creatively resolve master data challenges while adhering to established policies and procedures.
• Validating and defining the need for new enterprise master data attributes or entities.
• Provide expert knowledge of master data management to support business, operations, and technology teams.
• Lead user acceptance testing (UAT) and provide training as required.

Specified duties of SAP MDM

The role of an SAP MDM bridges both the business and technical aspects of master data management. Key competencies include:

• Data Modeling: Proficient in designing data models for efficient master data management.
• Data Governance: Expertise in governing and maintaining the integrity of master data.
• Business Process Understanding: Ability to understand functional aspects of business processes.
• Cross-Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with BI and PI to integrate SAP MDM with other systems.
• Scenario Management: Skilled in handling various MDM scenarios like Consolidation, Harmonization, and centralized data management.
• This role requires a comprehensive understanding of both the technical and business aspects of master data to effectively deliver solutions that meet client needs while ensuring scalability and compliance.
   

Qualifications

• Prior experience in SAP Master Data Management (MDM).
• A minimum of 2 years experience in master data management, ideally in global projects or multinational companies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to understand and explore issues across various business domains.
• Strong analytical skills with a systematic approach to problem-solving.
• Capable of effectively prioritizing tasks and providing timely updates to stakeholders.
• Experience working in diverse, multicultural environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
